20 Tips for Making 2009 a Positive Year!
By America's Energy Coach Jon Gordon

1. Take a 10-30 minute "Thank you" walk every day. While you walk practice
gratitude. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.

3. Buy a TIVO, tape your late night shows and get more sleep - it's the
ultimate energizer.

4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement: My
purpose is to___________ today.

5. Live with the 3 E's. Energy, Enthusiasm, Empathy.

6. Read more books than you did in 2008.

7. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, tai chi, qigong and prayer.
They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

8. Do the "one thing" you have always wanted to do.

9. Dream more while you are awake.

10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less foods that
are manufactured in plants.

The battles rage on [Jan. 3rd, 2009|07:43 pm]
JERUSALEM—The Gaza Strip's warriors have been firing rockets at Israeli border towns for nearly eight years and while Israel has tended all along to strike back with much greater lethal force, never has it launched such a ferocious reprisal as its current Operation Solid Lead.

The aerial raids aimed at Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets are being called the most potent Israeli assault in Palestinian-populated territory since the 1967 Six Day War.

Why now? Two reasons: the expiration of the Israeli-Gazan cease-fire on December 19 and the Israeli national election coming up on February 10.

http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/world/2008/12/30/why-the-gaza-war-between-israel-and-hamas-broke-out-now.html

'The eight years of fighting have been a grinding war of attrition, but the Israeli public wants an end to it, and with an election campaign in process, the country's leaders are under that much more pressure to give the public what it wants.'

You're Not Alone - Saosin [Dec. 26th, 2008|10:24 pm]
It's just like him
To wander off in the evergreen park
Slowly searching for any sign
Of the ones he used to love..

He says he's got nothing left to live for
(He says he's got nothing left...)
And this time I think you'll know..

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

She's just like him
Spoiled rotten
Confused by the lies she's been fed
And she's searching for no one..
(But herself)
Her eyes turn to green and she seems to be happy
That she is here
And this time I think you'll know...

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out

(There is more to know)

We're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell..
(So tell me)

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
(Make it out)
You will live to tell
(Live to tell)
You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
(And I know)
You can make it out
You will live to tell..

You are not alone.
You're not, you're not alone.

Soften Brown Sugar [Dec. 17th, 2008|03:00 pm]
Because I need to remember these...

10 Ways To Soften Hard Brown Sugar

1. Place the brown sugar in an airtight container with a slice of fresh bread placed on top. Seal and leave overnight. It should be soft and fresh again in the morning, if not just let it sit another day or two.
2. Sprinkle a few drops of water over the chunk of hardened sugar, place in a plastic bag, seal, and let sit for a couple days.
3. Place brown sugar in an open container, then top with a moistened cloth (paper towel works too). Let sit overnight.
4. Place the hardened sugar in an airtight container with a few apple slices. This should soften the sugar within the next day or two. Remove apple slices once sugar is soft again.
5. Use foil or plastic wrap to cover the top of the sugar. Then set a dampened sheet of paper towel (not dripping wet) on top of the foil. Place in an airtight container and seal. Let sit overnight or a few days as needed. Remove foil and paper towel once the towel is dry and sugar is fresh again.
6. Buy a clay disc or if you have a pottery piece on hand (from a broken clay pot, etc.), set it in water for about 30 minutes. Dry the piece so it isn’t dripping wet. Put the clay piece in a container with the sugar and seal. Check after a few days. Keep the piece in with your sugar for months if you’d like–will keep it soft.
7. Quick Tip #1: Need the sugar soft now? Put the brown sugar in a container and place in the microwave with a small bowl full of water beside it. Microwave for about 1 minute–check. If it’s still hard, try for another 30 seconds. You can keep doing this until the sugar is soft, but watch that you don’t melt the sugar.
8. Quick Tip #2: Place the hardened sugar in a baking pan and set in oven (temperature at about 250° F). Check after 5 minutes. If still not soft, continue checking every few minutes until it’s soft and ready to use.
9. Quick Tip #3: Place the brown sugar chunk in a microwave safe plastic bag. Take a square of paper towel and moisten with water (not dripping wet–wring out excess). Place the wet paper towel in the bag with the sugar and seal. Place in the microwave for approximately 20 seconds. If still not soft, microwave for a few seconds more, repeating until the sugar is ready to use. Be careful not to melt the sugar.
10. Quick Tip #4: Stick chunks of the brown sugar in a food processor or blender and chop/pulse until useable.

Help Save the Animals [Dec. 16th, 2008|01:48 pm]
Make the Ban on Ivory Sales Permanent.

Poaching, not habitat loss, is the leading reason for the decline of African elephant populations. An estimated 20,000 elephants are killed annually for their ivory tusks. And now, the international ban on trading ivory is being relaxed, encouraging poachers to intensify their slaughter of elephants.

Don't Let Another Bear Cub Die in Russia's Hibernating Bear Hunt

A mother bear is violently shaken from her winter hibernation, forced out of her den, and shot by a wealthy trophy hunter. She dies bravely protecting her den, while inside her tiny and defenseless cubs are left motherless. It's heartbreaking to think of the cubs orphaned and left to slowly freeze to death.

Each year, den hunting leaves up to 4,000 cubs motherless. Some of these homeless cubs end up as pets to local villagers, while others are taken to entertain tourists or be eaten in restaurants. Most are abandoned and left to die.

Stop Canada's 2009 Commercial Seal Hunt

Canada's annual commercial seal hunt is a cruel and unethical practice that produces a product nobody needs. 98 percent of the animals killed in the past two years have been baby seals between 2 weeks to 3 months old. And despite the potentially devastating effects of global warming to harp seal breeding grounds, the Canadian government has raised the annual seal hunt quotas to the highest levels in history.

Support the PAW Act - End Alaska's Aerial Hunting Program!

Alaska is truly our nation's last frontier. It is also the last place in the U.S. where a few hunters still use aircraft to chase and kill wolves. They shoot these animals from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank.

Damn politicians. Grr. [Dec. 4th, 2008|10:55 pm]

Of course the Liberals and their supporters want a coalition
government.
They want to be in charge even if they have to team up with
a couple other parties to do so.
Well, too bad.
They lost the election and that's how it is.
Deal with it.

Coalition Government can kiss my ass! [Dec. 3rd, 2008|06:59 am]
[Tags|]

The Liberals would like people to believe that even though
the Conservatives have the most seats of any party, that
more Canadians are 'against' them if you add how many didn't
vote for Conservatives.Which is one of their main arguments
for forming a 'coalition government'.

Well, let's see how many didn't vote for Liberals...

143 (CON)
49(BQ)
37(NDP)
2(IND)

Well, whattya know. That's 231 seats that didn't want the
Liberals running things.

143 (CON)
77(LIB)
49(BQ)
2(IND)

That's 271 seats against the NDP.

143 (CON)
77(LIB)
37(NDP)
2(IND)

And 259 seats against the BQ.

77(LIB)
49(BQ)
37(NDP)
2(IND)

Hmm. Only 165 seats don't want the Conservatives running things.
Well, I think the people made the better choice and it pisses
me off that the Liberals think they can manipulate the system
by joining up with the NDP and BQ to 'take over'.
Also, plenty of people who voted for the NDP do not support
the Liberals and do not want them in power.

I don't honestly know who would do a better job for Canadians,
but I do know that I don't like having my vote, my voice, tossed
out the window like it didn't matter at all.
And the NDP and Liberals don't even have the same mandates.
They've opposed each other for decades and now they're going
to buddy up. Man, I hate politicians.Grr!
